We don't use the C word in our house...

Jeremy and I have made the decision not to use the C word in our house. There are too many negative connotations with it.

Instead, we are choosing to use the word disease. Desmond has a disease that we are fighting. We haven't figured out yet how to tell him that he has to fight a disease, but I have a call out to the pediatric social worker at MSTI and I'm sure she will have some age-appropriate words for us to use.

Along those lines, please don’t say “It’s going to be okay.” We do hope it’s going to be okay, but right now we are not okay and it's not going to be okay for a while. The doctor told us today that Desmond will need scans for the rest of his childhood. We are still trying to process all of this news.
